Holiday Greetings

Holiday Photo Greetings and Avinu Malkenu instructions

It’s Elul – and that means it’s time to prepare for the High Holidays. We’ll not be together, but we don’t have to be apart! Here are two ways you can participate in a fun and meaningful way to bring virtual greetings as part of the Beth El family:

Send us a picture.  Take a picture of you or your family that represents the High Holidays. Maybe you’ll hold up a poster that says “Shana Tovah”, “Happy New Year”, “Have a Sweet Year”, “Happy 5781”, etc. Maybe you’ll hold up your apple slice dipped in honey or a slice of round challah. Whatever it is, we’ll use your New Year’s picture for our video slide show that will air during our streamed High Holiday services.

a.       Send your photo to michelle@bethelallentown.org by August 31, 2020

1.      Send a video greeting.  Are you outgoing, enthusiastic and creative? We want a video “High Holiday Greeting” from you and your family!

a.       Video greetings should be 30 seconds or less

b.       Be creative, be joyous, sing and dance, SMILE!

c.       Hold up a poster, dip apples and honey, take your challah out of the oven

d.       Make sure you are well-lit and your microphone/sound is clear

e.       Send your video to michelle@bethelallentown.org by August 31, 2020

2.     Sing Along! One of the iconic High Holiday melodies is “Avinu Malkenu”. Our recorded versions to sing along to are here: http://bit.ly/AvinuMalkenuSingAlong

a.       How to sing/record for our “virtual sing along”:

                                                               i.      Find a well-lit space with a neutral back drop – solid is best

ii.      Do not sit with your lighting source behind you, including windows, so we can see your face – a light above and in front of you will be perfect!

iii.      Record yourself and your family on any device with a microphone and camera

iv.      Use headphones and sing along to the recording– record yourself singing.

                                                             v.      Look into the camera and smile!

b.       FAQ –

                                                               i.      “I don’t sing – I sing off-key.”  Don’t worry! This isn’t “The Voice” or “American Idol”! Do your best, have a good time, look forward to everyone joining in!

ii.      “Where is the recording to sing along to?” You can find the recording at http://bit.ly/AvinuMalkenuSingAlong (there is an instrumental and a vocal version)

c.       Send your video recording to: jewishsinging@gmail.com, where it will be edited and added to everyone’s voice, no later than September 4, 2020*

                                                               i.      *You can also directly upload to this Google Drive folder: http://bit.ly/AvinuMalkenuDropFile

3.      And, as always, reach out ASAP if you have any questions, need help, etc.  Shari Spark, 610-597-4400, cell or shari@bethelallentown.org
